i must admit I was a skeptic a few years ago about support groups. I’d been offered a place in one for psychotherapy and found the idea horrid. When I’m suicidal the last thing I want is to be surrounded by people.
After having fibromyalgia for a while someone suggested I join a Fibro support group. I was again skeptical thinking it would be like an AA meeting but I was pleasantly surprised. I joined a support group in Dulwich (which is an hour’s drive from where I live) and I’ve tried to attend every meeting since. It’s really helpful to share your experiences with people that truly understand and I’ve met so many lovely people I now call friends through this.
So if, like me, you’re wary to try it, I seriously suggest you give it a go.
